1. He worked as a pupil civil engineer at the time of the census in April 1871. He was than living at The Vicarage, Huddersfield, Yorkshire with his parents, seven siblings and three servants. 7

2. He worked as a civil engineer & surveyor at the time of the census in April 1891. He was then living at 13 Beech Avenue, Basford, Nottingham with his wife, five children and a domestic servant. 8

3. He worked as an architect & surveyor at the time of the census in March 1901. He was then living at 13 Beech Avenue, New Basford, Nottingham with his wife, four children, a nephew and a domestic servant. 9

4. He worked as an architect and surveyor (Chartered Engineer) in 1902. His offices were then at 18 Low Pavement and his home was at 13 Beech Avenue, Basford. 10

5. He worked as an architect and surveyor in 1905. He was then in partnership with William Richard Gleave, ARIBA) with offices at 18 Low Pavement. By now, his home was at Thorncliff, St Andrews Rd, Nottingham. He was also the surveyor for the purpose of the building bye-laws for Radcliffe-on-Trent, Notts. 11

6. He worked as an architect and surveyor in 1913. He was then no longer in partnership with William Richard Greave - who, by now seems to have teamed up with Charle Henry Calvert (Arthur's son) and Bernard Jessop - but was still operating from offices at 18 Low Pavement, Nottingham. By now, his home was at Grasmere, Dagmar Grove, Nottingham. He continued his role as surveyor for the purpose of the building bye-laws for Radcliffe-on-Trent, Notts.

In 1920, the business appears to be still operating as in 1913. 12 13
