• Occupation: coal master and farmer of 18 acres, by the time of the census in March 1851. ²⁷⁹ He was then living at The Park, Ilkeston with his wife, son, a niece and three servants.

Samuel married Sarah East on 8 May 1821 in Lowdham, Notts.²³ (Sarah East was born circa 1794 in Lowdham, Notts ²⁸⁰.)
