He was described as a Director. In 1892 he had purchased Fearfield's Factory, Derby Road, Stapleford, Notts from Joseph Fairfield's estate. The business was later taken over by Thomas Attenborough and even later by Johnson & Barnes. The Chambers pencil factory eventually occupied the site.
