• Occupation: telephonic electrician, at the time of the census in April 1881. 184 He was then living at 6 Everton Terrace, Brooke Road, Hackney, London with his widowed mother and four younger siblings.

As a "telephonic electrician" he must have been in the forefront of the introduction of the telephone into the UK as Bell had patented it only relatively recently (1876).

• Occupation: electrical engineer, at the time of the census in April 1891. 185 He was then living with two of his sisters at 22 Lincoln Road, Finchley, London. They were employing a domestic servant.

• Occupation: electrical engineer (M.I.E.E), at the time of the census in March 1901. 186 he was then living with his wife at 325 Mansfield Rd, Nottingham where they employed a domestic servant.

• Occupation: Works Manager for The British L M Ericsson Manufacturing Company Ltd, by 1905, Beeston, Notts. 187 The Ericsson company began its involvement at the Beeston site in 1903 so it is likely that he was manager from that time. He continued to live at 325 Mansfield Road, Nottingham (Prospect Villas).
