• Occupation: lacemaker, by 1835 and up to about 1837/38, Nottingham. 98 During this time he was living with his wife and family at St James' Street, Nottingham.

• Occupation: butcher, at the time of the census in June 1841. 99 He was then living at St James' Street, Nottingham with his wife, four children and two domestic servants. Based on their childrens' baptism records (from Sarah, 1838) he became a butcher in about 1837-8.

• Occupation: wholesale milliner, by the time of the census in March 1851. 100 He was by then living on Long Row with his wife and six children. Two assistants, an improver, an apprentice and two domestic servants were also in the household.
