Marriage Register - St John the Baptist Parish Church - Volume 2 - 1653 to 1677

Vol. II of the Beeston Registers consists of 16 leaves of parchment, measuring (for the most part) 11½ by 5¾ inches, stitched in a
parchment cover, and contains entries for the years 1653 to 1677. Burials for 1654-9 are contained on the last two leaves.
The spelling of the surnames is in all cases the same as in the original registers, but the Christian names have in most cases been translated or
modernised.
It should be borne in mind that previous to 1752 the years were calculated as beginning on the 25th of March, so that a marriage entered as having
taken place on, say, the 20th February 1624, really occurred on that day in 1625 according to the modern calandar. This is sometimes expressed as 1624/5.
The marriages in the first two volumes were transcribed by Mr T.M. Blagg, and those from 1678 to 1812 by Major George Fellows, of Beeston Fields.
The living was vacant at the time this transcript was made, and thanks are due to Mr W. Millington, the then churchwarden, for placing the Registers at
the transcribers’ service.
